Every piece we create is made to order and tailored to its owner. With access to thousands of fabrics from leading mills and artisan weavers, we'll guide you through the selection process, helping you choose a fabric that is beautiful, practical, and uniquely personal.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR HOME

Before discussing fabrics, we take the time to understand how you live and how the furniture will be used within your home.

We consider the room, the lighting, existing furnishings, pets, children, and the level of day-to-day use the piece is likely to receive. We also discuss your personal style, colour preferences, and the atmosphere you would like to create.

By understanding these details from the outset, we can make thoughtful recommendations that balance aesthetics, comfort, practicality, and longevity, ensuring your fabric choice is as functional as it is beautiful.

COMPOSITION

The composition of a fabric plays an important role in how it looks, feels, and performs over time.

From natural linens and wools to velvets, cottons, and modern performance fabrics, each material offers its own unique qualities. Some fabrics are chosen for their softness and texture, others for their durability, practicality, or ease of maintenance.

Understanding these differences is an important part of the selection process. We take the time to explain the characteristics of each fabric, helping you make an informed decision based on your lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and the intended use of the furniture.

The result is a fabric choice that not only looks beautiful, but feels right for the way you live.

PATTERN & COLOURWAYS

The right fabric should feel perfectly at home within your space.

Whether you're drawn to understated neutrals, rich colours, or bold patterns, we'll help refine the options and consider how each choice works alongside your existing interiors. Pattern scale is equally important; a design that works beautifully on a large sofa may feel overwhelming on a smaller chair, and we'll guide you through these considerations to achieve a balanced result.

For patterned fabrics, we carefully pattern match wherever possible to ensure a seamless, considered finish. We also advise when a fabric can be railroaded, allowing it to be upholstered across the width of the furniture to minimise joins. For plain fabrics, we pay close attention to texture, pile direction, and light reflection, ensuring every detail is beautifully executed.

PERFORMANCE & LONGEVITY

Beautiful furniture should be enjoyed, not worried about.

A family sofa used every day requires different qualities to an occasional chair in a formal sitting room. We guide clients through durability ratings, rub counts, and performance considerations, ensuring every fabric is specified appropriately for its intended use, whether residential or commercial.

FINISHING TOUCHES

The finishing details are often what elevate a piece from beautiful to truly bespoke. For a refined, tailored look, we can apply self piping in the same fabric, introduce contrast piping to define the silhouette, or upholster contrast borders for a more distinctive and decorative finish.

These subtle details can completely transform the character of a piece, highlighting its shape and craftsmanship. For those looking for additional embellishment, we can also source a wide range of handmade braids, fringes, and tassel trims, from understated and elegant to richly decorative. We'll help you explore the possibilities and select finishing touches that complement both your fabric choice and the overall design, ensuring a cohesive and beautifully considered result.

METERAGE

Calculating fabric requirements is an important part of the upholstery process, and one we take care of for you.

We carefully measure each piece and calculate the exact meterage required, helping to avoid unnecessary over-ordering and reducing waste wherever possible. When determining fabric quantities, we take into account pattern repeats, pattern matching, and fabric placement to ensure the finished piece looks balanced and considered.

Where piping, contrast details, or additional trims have been specified, we also allow for these within our calculations, ensuring sufficient fabric is ordered for every element of the design. Our attention to detail means you can be confident that your fabric is used efficiently while achieving the highest standard of finish.

We can source fabrics, organise samples, and offer exclusive discounts from a range of trusted fabric houses. To prevent excess, we calculate the exact quantities needed, ensuring  we order just the right amount.

No overbuying, less waste, just perfectly measured fabric for your project.
